I get a lot of requests from people that want to upgrade their laptop. Unfortunately, laptops are not built in open architecture like desktops. You can upgrade the memory, the hard drive, maybe even the CPU but you cannot upgrade the motherboard or video card. Laptops use plastics that are custom molded to the original motherboard so they will not fit any other.
If you must upgrade it is best to invest in a brand new system. It may even be a cheaper proposition. If you have questions about upgrades, feel free to write me at email@example.com. You can also find laptop parts available at our website www.laptoppartsexpert.com.
Help, I Need A New Motherboard! December 18, 2013Posted by laptoppartsexpert in Motherboard.

Many years ago, when I moved into selling laptop parts exclusively, I made a conscious decision not to sell motherboards. It’s not that I wanted to turn away business. I would love to be able to have sold them. What I realized, though, was that the manufacturers wanted to sell them for more than the laptop was worth. Naturally, I would have needed to mark them up beyond that. So here’s the question – would you spend $950 for a 4 year-old laptop that is worth $300?
In many cases a new motherboard is not even needed. You may want to get a second opinion from someone that specializes in laptop repair. Board level repair of your motherboard may also be another option. If not, a used motherboard on eBay or a US supplier may be your only option.
